At Fraya Tree, we are determined to bring easy yet stylish alternative to the mass usage of paper towels. Our aim is to make our conscious consumers happier and healthier through delivering eco-friendly high quality Tenugui.
Paper towels have become a common item for many of us living in developed countries. They are convenient, absorbent, and helpful in cleaning messes at home and in restaurants, wiping hands, or comes in forms of serviettes at your favorite cafes. In the US, more than 13 billion pounds of paper towels are used each year, equal to per capita usage of roughly 40 pounds - 80 rolls of paper towels.
Paper towels are mainly made from either virgin or recycled paper pulp which is extracted from wood or fibers. They are then bleached during the production process to brighten its appearance. 110 million trees and 130 billion gallons of water are used to produce these paper towels. What’s more, fossil fuels are also used and plenty of carbon dioxide are emitted into the air to produce and distribute these products. Most paper towels then end up in landfills, producing greenhouse gasses.
Each year, more than 32 million acres of forest are lost across the world. That is an area around the size of England. Each day, 88,000 acres of forest are lost.
As we lose these trees, the benefits trees provide to our mental and physical health are also lost.
A single tree can absorb around 10 pounds of air pollutants a year. A number of scientific evidences have proven that by being near the trees, there are many positive effects brought to our body and mind such as:
- Immune system boost
- Better sleep quality
- Decreased anxiety, stress, and anger
- Lower blood pressure
- Improved metabolism and cardiovascular health
As our world faces a number of issues including climate change and biodiversity crisis, we all have the opportunity to take a small step forward to be kinder and greener to our planet by simply reducing the use of paper towels.
With the recognizable bold and beautiful Tenugui designs, Fraya Tree is here with you on your journey to converse wisdom into action, make your voice heard as a conscious consumer, and lead others to join you too.
